- reframing the discourse around child health and development
- supporting innovative, multi-disciplinary research and demonstration projects
- building leadership capacity in child development research and policy
These three objectives, helped the Global Children’s Initiative build a portfolio of activities in three domains:
- early childhood development
- child mental health
- children in crisis and conflict situations.
The first program effort outside of the United States was in Brazil. In addition "A Good Start" was created in Chile as an EC program that focuses on quality early care and education through staff professional development.
This week I listened to Barbra "BJ" Jones on World News Forum radio. BJ founded the Pine Grove school in Maine. BJ discussed her journey to founding her school. She was not impressed with the public school system and set out to California to find an alternative to traditional education. She responded to an unemployment ad for a teacher in a Montessori School. BJ eventually earned her Montessori certification in London, England. BJ's story and determination is an inner drive that all EC professionals should posses. We should always find ways to challenge ourselves in order to better serve and educate the children, staff, and families that we serve.

LaQuasia,
ReplyDeleteI really love how the Global Children's Initiative is dedicated to children's health and development. I am coming across so many programs and website that are making a tremendous difference in children's lives. I also love how this website is an international website, reaching out to ALL countries. One thing that I have learned is that early childhood education is different in every country but the one factor that every country agrees on is a child's health and development.
Barbara "BJ" Jones sounds like an inspiration to all educators. The fact that she set out to find a school that reached all children is a great success! And I definitely agree with your last statement; we should challenge ourselves in order to better serve families, the children, and the staff. I look forward to reading your next blog!
Hi LaQuasia,
ReplyDeleteI thought it was cool how they were using the video to demonstrate to how children's brains are affected by the people in their homes and communities. It should help to provide a great visual of just how aware we need to be when caring for children's well-being.
Hello LaQuasia,
ReplyDeleteI just looked at this website and I love it already. First I love how it is international; second I love how they work with more than 80 countries. Imagine all the helpful information I could obtain with all those great minds. They are all there for one purpose and it is for the benefit of children and their families. I am going to really enjoy viewing this site.
Thanks for picking such a wonderful interesting Foundation,
Vennetta
